Vander – ADOPTED!

  • Keeshond
  • male,
  • 3 years,
  • 32 lbs.

Vander was a stray before coming to Peppertree so we do not know a lot about his history, but if he could talk we are pretty sure he would spin some fantastic tale where he was a traveling circus performer, or maybe a pirate. What we do know is he arrived in need of some TLC and time to settle in and show his personality. And what a personality it is! Vander is the type of dog who is always sorry to see you go and happy to see you come home and will greet you with happy barks and spins! While Vander is fine being left for a day, when people are home he likes to follow his person around and make sure nothing happens without him knowing. But for all he wants to be with you, he is not a big snuggler and prefers to enjoy his couch time solo. Vander LOVES walks and will bark with excitement when he sees someone put their shoes on, and will even do a happy dance on his hind legs which includes some spins and bounces too – it’s guaranteed to make you laugh. On the walk he is pretty good on leash and will happily make new friends, he is a very polite dog, the neighbors love to see him coming and always make sure to say hi and tell him he is handsome. He loves to sniff and seems to take great joy in leaving his calling card for other dogs to sniff, unfortunately he does seem to have the habit of marking in the home, but time and belly bands are greatly improving that situation. Vander currently lives with cats and another dog. While he is polite he does not really want to play or snuggle with other dogs, he would likely be fine as an only dog and may even prefer it. We do not think he would do well with small children but are happy to do meet and greets. Keeshonds’ coats require special care, and as Vander’s coat was previously shaved down, it became very matted and is taking extra care as it grows back. Someone familiar with Keeshonds and their needs would be preferred, or someone willing to learn.
