Cooper

Cooper is 13 years old, but according to a very recent vet visit he is in perfect health. He is still very energetic for an older dog and loves going for walks, but spends most of his time lounging around the house. He knows a lot of commands and is very food motivated, so it is easy to teach him new things with treats. Cooper loves rolling around in grass and barking at squirrels. He doesn’t pull on his leash (unless he sees a squirrel!) He will happily sit on the couch with you, head in your lap, as you read or watch movies. He is crate trained and housebroken and can stay home without a bathroom break for long periods of time. He is incredibly sweet and loyal, but Cooper is a bit of a quirky dog and has a few personality traits that need a little extra consideration if you’re interested in living with him. He does not like children or cats and should not live in a house with either. He is friendly with many dogs, but not all, and can be really aggressive when he does not like the other dog. It would be best for him to be an only pet in a house with one or two adults. He can be shy with strangers, but usually warms up to people pretty quickly. Some of Cooper’s other quirky traits are that he will eat any and all food or trash left in his reach, including taking dishes out of the sink. He also likes to chase light, which can be a problem if you have a lot of cars driving past your house during certain parts of the day. He does not like having his nails clipped and consents to baths, but doesn’t like them that much. He is very, very scared of the vet and needs to be muzzled and/or completely sedated for vet visits. In his old age Cooper has mellowed out a lot and mostly curls up in his crate or on a bed and sleeps the day away, so these quirks are things you won’t experience often, but he is still super energetic and fun to have around if you want a more interactive older dog.
