Smokey – ADOPTED!

  • Lab mix,
  • female,
  • 8 years,
  • 50 lbs.

Smokey is nothing but pure love and joy. She wants to be with her people all the time! She will let you know when she’d like to be petted, walked or take a nap. Like other labs, she’s a pro at the “I need your attention, so I’m going to pick up the remote, shoe or whatever else I can find to get you to chase me and try to take it away” game!!!! She believes she is a lap dog and likes to snuggle on the couch and take a nap with you. Smokey is very smart. She doesn’t care much for cats, bunnies or squirrels, and she will remember on walks where exactly she saw them and attempt to look for them. If you tell her “leave it” on the walk, she will remain alert with her ears perked, but she won’t try to pull towards the enemy! Smokey appears to want to play with the cat in her foster home and the cat wants to attack Smokey, so the cat has been banished to the upstairs. Perhaps with the right dog-savvy cat, however, a truce could be reached. Smokey likes the fenced-in yard to run around with her foster brother, but she has to be walked at least 3 times per day, and she doesn’t mind the rain. She isn’t a barker, unless someone comes to the door or you’ve forgotten that it is walk time. She gets along just fine with the resident dog in her foster home and will play a little with him, but cares more about the people around her. Smokey is not terribly fond of riding in the car but is getting used to it. She has been a super friendly girl at adoption clinics, and is just the sweetest, most gentle dog. She will be a loyal companion with unconditional love to give back!
