Gentle Schnitzel hails from Mississippi originally. Though he doesn’t bark with a southern accent, he tends to know exactly when it’s time to eat and he can get vocal with excitement at breakfast or dinner time. As the story was told by the shelter down south, he was a stray most of his life. That roaming quality in him hasn’t waned since living with them up here in the Northeast. As great as he is with other dogs, people, and especially kids, Schnitzel has a penchant for wanting to escape his fosters’ small yard and has done so on numerous occasions. He loves to run and roam and goes to anyone willing to give him a treat or scratch his head; both of which he absolutely loves. In fact, we call him ‘love bug’ because he’s very affectionate. Schnitzel is looking for a new home with a secure yard. A four foot fence is no challenge at all, and we suspect he’d scale a wire fence – so stockade fences are preferred! Cats are unknown. He is house trained, although not crate trained (he does not need one). He is also great on leash! Schnitzel is neutered, caught up on shots, but he unfortunately arrived to his foster family heartworm positive. He is starting treatment but will need a family prepared to continue that regimen of care and injections in the coming months, the cost of which will be covered by Peppertree. His family will be sad to see him go, but happy he will be with a new owner who can better provide the environment and care he deserves.
